Sago with Almond Milkshake/ Badam Javarasi Payasam / Sago-Almond-Milk Drink/ Badam Javarasi Gheer/ Sago with Almond Milk Gheer
Ingredients
Sago/Javarasi - 1 cup
Almonds - 20 nos
Cashew nut - 4 nos
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Saffron - a pinch
Water - 1/2 cup
2% Reduced Fat Milk - 2 cups
Garnish (Optional)
Ghee/Butter - 1/4 ts
Almonds - 4 nos
Cashew - 2 nos
Method
1. In a low heat place a pan, roast the sagos/Javarasi till it is crispy. Make it cook and grind it coarsely & keep aside.
2. Grind the 20 almonds(no need to roast the almonds) along with sugar and a pinch of saffron and keep aside.
3. Chop the 4 almonds and cashew nuts into small bits and in the same pan add butter and roast the almonds and cashew nuts till golden brown and keep aside. (This step is to add extra flavor to the drink which is optional).
4. Mix the grounded sagos with the water and pour in the pan, cook the sagos till it turns to transparent color(sagos generally looks like milk-white color, it will change to transparent once when the sagos are cooked this how we can find whether the sagos are cooked or not). Sagos will cook soon since we have grounded it.
5. Meanwhile boil the milk and keep in room temperature. Since i have used the homogenized milk i haven't boiled it directly added in the 7th step.
6. Now add the Almond-saffron-sugar mixture to it and stir it.
7. Now add the milk, roasted almonds and cashew nut to the sago and stir it.
This Drink is good for kids, sagos are generally a cooling agent and i have used almond which is very low in Cholesterol and Sodium, it is also a good source of Riboflavin (essential for healthy skin, nails, hair growth and general good health, including regulating thyroid activity), and a very good source of Vitamin E.
