Hello! Rasam lovers here is the superb n delicious Thakkali rasam (Tomato Rasam), I have come across many people(including myself :-)) who loves rasam but they feel like when they prepare the taste doesn't comes out well instead result like kasayam but now i pat my shoulders for presenting this recipe, friends here is the gift for you, i bet you guys you all would love this version of my thakkali rasam.
Ingredients
Ripe Tomatoes - 3 no medium size
Garlic pod - 2 nos
Red Chilli pwd - 1/4 ts
Tamarind - a small gooseberry size (optional - use if you feel like the tomatoes are not sour enough)
Turmeric pwd - 1/4 ts
Coriander strands - 4 to 5
Salt for taste
Water - 2 1/2 cups
Coriander leaves for garnish
Oil/Ghee - 1 ts ( of your choice)
Grated Coconut - 1/4 ts (optional)
To Grind
Coriander seeds - 1 ts
Cumin Seeds - 1 ts
Pepper - 1/2 ts
Red Chilli - 2 no
Thoor Dhal - 1 ts (you can also substitute with a ts of boiled thoor dhal but don't grind it include during the step4)
Tempering
Mustard Seeds - 1 ts
Cumin seeds - 1/4 ts
Asfoetida/Hing pwd - 1/4 ts
Curry Leaves - 2 twig
Method
1. Wash tomatoes,coriander and cut the 3 tomatoes into 12 or 24 pieces (each into 4 or 8 parts),crush the garlic, chop the coriander stands in a inch size.
2. In a thick bottomed vessel pour water and add turmeric,red chilli pwd, tomatoes, tamarind, garlic,coriander stem with some salt and let it boil in a medium heat.
3. Meanwhile grind the items in the Grind list to a fine powder.
4. Once when you see the skin of the tomatoes peels, then mix the grinded powder in some hot water (not too much water, this step is too avoid forming lumps) and pour in the boiling rasam.
5. Adjust the seasoning, and in a separate pan with a ts of ghee/oil add the tempering items and pour it in the rasam, once when the nice aroma comes switch off the gas and garnish with coriander leaves.
6. Immediately transfer to a vessel and cover with a lid else you may expect visitors because of its excellent aroma.
7. For extra flavor you can add 1/4 ts of grated coconut which optional.
